Help HELPIS Celebrate May - the Official Month of Kindness and Generosity in Massachusetts!

Spring is here and the days are getting longer. What could be more cheering than flowering bulbs emerging and bursting forth like a jewel? Snowdrops, parrot tulips, grape hyacinths, crocuses, and trees are bursting into life (and maybe some allergies J. Speaking of a boost, when you read what has been going on over the past few months with HELPIS, it too will give you a boost! You can visit our Facebook page and Group to see more about what we’ve been up to.

You may have heard that May is the official month of Kindness and Generosity in Massachusetts! In 2016, Joyce Deliyiannis and HELPIS along Representative Ken Gordon and a number of Burlington children witnessed Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker sign the House bill, No. 2747 into law, providing for the annual observance of the month of May as the official month of kindness.

You can read more about it here and watch the video about the years of hard work it took to bring Joyce’s dream to fruition.

During the month of May, HELPIS is challenging people to help someone in need without asking for anything in return as a reminder that even simple acts of kindness can heal, uplift, inspire, and improve the lives of others. Kindness has the power to bring hope to those searching for it and by extension, change lives. It’s our intention to designate May as a month of celebrating the spirit of giving across the country – to salute the kind and generous acts of giving that have taken place throughout the year. Our goal is to also encourage more spontaneous acts of generosity, tolerance, and kindness during this month and throughout the year.

We hope you'll help us celebrate and please let us know about what you’re doing! You can contact us here or on social media. Please use the subject and hashtag: #HELPISChallenge
