6th Annual Teddy Bear Drive Aims to Deliver 1,500 Bears—and 1,500 Moments of Comfort—This Valentine’s Day

BURLINGTON, MA — As Valentine’s Day approaches, a local tradition rooted in compassion and community returns for its sixth year. The 6th Annual Teddy Bear Drive is underway, with an ambitious goal: to collect 1,500 brand-new teddy bears to bring comfort, courage, and companionship to children—and seniors—facing illness, homelessness, and trauma.

The drive benefits HELPIS, a registered nonprofit dedicated to spreading kindness and supporting individuals and families during some of life’s most difficult moments. All donated bears will be distributed by HELPIS to children in Boston cancer centers, homeless shelters, and local programs supporting children impacted by traumatic events. This year, donations will also reach seniors living in nursing homes and long-term care facilities.

“Love doesn’t always look like flowers or candy,” said a HELPIS representative. “Sometimes, love looks like a teddy bear—a small, soft reminder that someone cares, especially when life feels overwhelming.”

While a teddy bear may seem simple, its impact can be profound. For a child in a hospital room, a bear can become a steady companion during treatments, long nights, and unfamiliar surroundings. For a child living in a shelter, it can offer a sense of safety and something familiar to hold onto. For seniors experiencing isolation, it can provide comfort and connection.

“This isn’t just about toys,” organizers added. “It’s about helping children—and seniors—feel seen, supported, and not alone.”

How the Community Can Help

The Teddy Bear Drive is collecting new, unused teddy bears and stuffed animals through February 11, 2026.

Every donation—whether a single bear or a monetary contribution—helps move the drive closer to its goal of 1,500 bears, representing 1,500 hugs, 1,500 moments of comfort, and 1,500 reminders that kindness still matters.

“Together, we can turn kindness into something a child can actually hold this Valentine’s Day,” organizers said. “And in doing so, give them something even bigger than a bear: hope.”
